Abstract

Introduction: Cholangiocarcinoma (CHCA) is a cancer reportedly highest incidence in Thailand. Especially in the North-Eastern region. There are limited numbers of study showing efficacy of chemotherapy treatment in Thai CHCA patients. This study has been conducted to evaluate the efficacy of chemotherapy in CHCA patients. Methods: A retrospective cohort study had been conducted. Patients who had been diagnosed CHCA at Sunpasittiprasong hospital Ubon ratchathani during January 2015–December 2016 were included in the study. The primary end point was an overall survival between patients who had received chemotherapy (chemotherapy group) and not received chemotherapy (controlled group). Results: 211 CHCA patients were enrolled in the study. Majority of patients were male (66.40%). Average age was 60.15±9.25 years. Median overall survival in CHCA was 8.87 months (95%CI 717-10.56). Chemotherapy group patients had median overall survival 10.07 months (95%CI 8.55-11.58) higher than control group 3.77 months (95%CI 2.74-4.79) significantly (P<0.05). Conclusions: Median overall survival in CHCA was approximate 9 months. Chemotherapy had significantly improved overall survival in CHCA patients.
